The Permits Protect consumer awareness project was a collaborative effort
between the state, local government and the construction industry starting
in 2001. The original planning group came up with the Permits Protect
concept and built a campaign around the name, Permits Protect - Protecting
the Safety and Value of Your Home.
In the interim Permits Protect has produced a logo, radio ads, TV PSAs,
brochures, fliers, Home and Garden tradeshow presence, a web site, free
media campaign and personal appearances. The target audience for this
campaign has been homeowners, do-it-yourselfers and homeowners contemplating
a remodeling project.
In 2003, legislation passed in Oregon which requires homeowners selling
their property to show proof to potential buyers that work done on the
property was correctly permitted. This underscored the need for consumers
to have a better understanding of the importance of acquiring building
permits in Oregon.
